SHERIDAN COLLEGE
Sheridan College, formerly known as the Ontario Institute of Applied Arts and Technology, was established in 1967 with funding from the Canadian government and is accredited by the Government of Ontario. Sheridan is a member of the Canadian Institute of Technology as well as a member of the Canadian Language Institute.
The College has received the highest number of ACCC More awards (ACCC National Merit Award) of any public college in Canada, and has a 100 percent acceptance rate for one-third of the students in its programs. On average, 83% of our graduates are employed within six months of graduation. According to a survey, employer satisfaction with the performance of our graduates is 94%.
The Animation Design Department is known as the Harvard of Animation, the third largest school of traditional animation and computer animation design in the world, and a pioneer in the field of computer animation design. Our animation students have been nominated for four Academy Awards, and eleven of the 2013 Academy Award nominees are graduates of the Academy. The Academy's alumni and faculty members have created such well-known works as "The Hobbit", "The Devil's End", "Jurassic Park", "Forrest Gump", "Star Wars", "Shrek" series, "The Mouse in the Family", "Exodus", "The Lord of the Rings", "The Avengers", "Taming of the Dragon", and "The Young PI's Drift".
In 2012, the School of Animation Arts and Design was accredited as a member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the only institution in Canada to receive this honor. The School also offers joint degrees with prestigious institutions such as Brock University, the University of Toronto, and York University, such as the Department of Art History at the University of Toronto and the Department of Computer Communication Applications at Brock University.
The College is located on the west side of Toronto, Ontario, with major campuses in Oakville, Mississauga, and Brampton. The College has three main campuses: Davis Campus, Trafalgar Campus, and Hazel McCallion Campus.
The Davis Campus is the largest major campus of the College. It offers programs in health care, sociology, liberal studies, engineering, and construction.
The Trafalgar campus is located in the town of Oakville on the lake, about a 30-minute drive from Toronto. There are approximately 7,500 students enrolled in the Davie campus. The campus also houses the $32 million Sheridan Centre for Emerging Technologies in Animation (SCAET). The programs offered on this campus are mainly related to the School of Animation Arts and Design but also include media arts, theater, and computer animation.
Located in downtown Mississauga, the sixth largest campus in Canada, the Macallan campus is the newest campus of the College and was established in 2011. This campus is the home of Sheridan's "The Pilon School of Business", and therefore the programs offered at the McGallum campus are primarily in the business category.
While the College has students from over 50 countries around the world, the majority of its student population is still Canadian. The College currently has over 18,000 full-time students, over 35,000 part-time students, and approximately 6,000 international students.
School Programs
The College offers more than 130 programs, including Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, Certificate, and Post-graduate diploma programs. The College offers conditional admission, which means that students who meet the general admission requirements can enter Sheridan's EAP program with a standard score after completing the specified courses, even if they do not meet the language proficiency requirements.
The School also offers a Pre-Arts program, designed for students who are unable to submit the portfolio and basic skills required for full admission because they do not have a background in the arts, and who, through intensive practical training, are able to enter the program without a relevant background.
